A man has been rescued after plunging into a 2,000ft deep gorge while taking a selfie. Gopal Pundlik Chavan, 30, miraculously survived after slipping into the Ajanta Caves in Maharashtra, India. The tourist plummeted after reportedly being distracted by his camera phone, with local reports saying he was trying to take a selfie at the site. He was rescued by local police and fellow visitors. A shocking video shows the moment Gopal was fished out of the water with a long rope. The camera then pans down into the gorge, revealing just how shockingly deep it is. Rescuers on either side of the cliff pull on the rope, with Gopal attached to what appears to be a harness. Over 10 people then collectively harness their strength to pull him up. Gopal emerges to the top and is pulled over to the right side of the rocks. It is thought that he began swimming as soon as he fell, which gave rescuers more time to save him.
